OFER KRISTAL

Hi! I'm Ofer, I have launched KRISTAL. in 2019 after working on architecture projects in numerous countries and contexts.

I have started my architectural path studying at the Politecnico di Milano (Italy), and graduated with a B.Sc in 2011. After graduation I have traveled to the Indian Himalayas to extend a research on the region's vernacular architecture and continued to Kathmandu, Nepal, where I have designed my first built project. Later on I have continued to master studies at Aalborg Universitet (Denmark), and graduated in 2014, with the thesis project - 'Freeconstruction'.

After concluding two 'humanitarian oriented' theses I decided to join TribeLab, an architectural NGO based in Guatemala, where we designed and built houses, a community center, a clinic, a school, and more. The humanitarian approach, together with focusing on natural materials, local techniques, and direct communication with the end user were always a huge inspiration and passion for me, and taught me how to design with less, think globally and act locally.

Upon finishing my time in Guatemala I have moved to Tokyo (2016) to join Sou Fujimoto Architects, where I had the opportunity to work on programatically, geometrically and spatially complex projects. Already in Tokyo I started working on 'Mille Arbres' project, and later moved to Paris where the project is located.  In Paris I helped setting up 'Sou Fujimoto Atelier Paris',  lived and worked exclusively on ‘Mille Arbres’, with an exception of  one competition - the headquarters for Médecins sans Frontières in Geneva, Switzerland.

As part of my work on ‘Mille Arbres’, I was uniquely in charge of complex geometry and 3D design issues. For that matter I have developed a solid, tailor made, algorithmic platform which enables a rapid, parametrically informed design process accompanied by real time analytic feedback from the software.

Studio KRISTAL. was created upon this rich and various experience, and is based in Bruneck, South Tyrol, Italy.
